Today I had my 14 month-old Star bulls fertility tested by a local veterinarian. The bulls easily passed their breeding soundness examination test. The minimum sperm motility and morphology scores and scrotal circumference measurements were 80 and 90% and 31 cm, respectively. The doc was amazed at their fertility scores for being so young. Then I informed him that they have only been developed on grass. Their adaptive African-influenced genetics, hybrid vigor from crossbreeding, and slick hair coats are positive contributing factors, besides management. Next week, bulls will be turned out with cows and heifers as the breeding season starts in mid-July. Attached is a photo of one of these young bulls.
